Wow, @GraceM!! I’m so curious to learn more about your story! If you have a moment to share, I’d love to look at link of the non-profit you are working at! Did you find this opportunity through your OTD program?
Hello! Glad to be here! Looking forward to realizing MY OT potential, my clinic’s potential for excellence, and Occupational Therapy’s unique potential to impact a person’s health and quality of life through the lifespan. I work as a senior clinician/mentor in a small pediatric OT/Speech clinic. Our typical client is autistic, on Medicaid, and comes from a home where English is a second language and the culture is ethnic. Our company celebrates neurodiversity and seeks to provide stellar services to marginalized populations. Now, on to ordering my sticker…
@asmita, it is SO great to have you in here! It should like you are doing such important work in NJ. I’m really interested in having a hand therapist on the podcast this year- so if you have any ideas for specific topics within hand therapy, let me know.
I’m also really excited for you to transition to rehab technology! There is such a need there. Those episodes with Lauren and Lauren really have stuck with me- in that there are huge technology changes coming that we need to prepare for!
A name that popped to mind for you to possible connect with is Holly Mitchell. She wrote a blog post for me one time. She is super nice and knowledgeable and is over on the east coast with you! https://www.linkedin.com/in/hollymitchellot/
Hi Grace, are peds included in your work? I just started a job in a suburb of Washington DC with many clients from Middle East and South Asian countries. Interested in learning more about how to connect with my families, honor their culture, and be more effective in helping their children. Any thoughts you have on that would be welcome. I’ve worked for many years with people from diverse cultures, but am feeling a need to up my game so to speak.
Hello! I love listening to podcasts so when I came across this one AND learned I could earn CEU’s it was a done deal! So excited to have good, concise access to our most up to date research. My goal is to incorporate more evidence based practices into my day to day. I’m an OT at a hospital. Primarily on the surgical floor with a focus on total joints. I do see a variety of acute patients however and love to stretch my OT brain when I leave my bubble Excited to be here!
Thanks so much Sarah for getting back and for suggesting a connection, I’ll definitely reach out to Holly for more information in this area of practice.
About topics in hand therapy, we do get a lot of patients with Arthritis related deformities in their hands, I’m always looking for treatment ideas and current orthotic practices on this subject, it would be great to know what’s the current evidence based literature out there on these conditions, thanks and looking forward to contributing in this group.
Hello everyone! After listening to the podcast for well over a year, I decided now was the time to join. I am excited to learn more from this community. I have been an OT for almost 13 years. I moved into academia about 6 months ago.
Anne
Hello Sarah and Everyone! Thank you for the resources you provide, so happy to be a part of this OT community!
Hello Everyone! Looking forward to continued learning and growing to help others and ourselves live life to the fullest. I am a COTA in home health/hospice and outpatient assisted living/memory care.
Hi Everyone, I’m Tan Taylor! look forward to being connected to this wonderful community! Thank you, @SarahLyon for the time you’ve taken to give this platform life and for creating such a cool, useful space for us!
Hello everyone, my name is Kris Redmon. I have worked in the mental health field for 26 years. Most of my caseload is adult IDD/MI, with a handful of youth. People I serve live in family homes, group homes, AFC homes, and independent living. One part of my job that I enjoy is home modifications. I read about OT Potential in the comments from an AOTA networking community site. I love what I have viewed so far and plan on sharing with the rest of my department. I have made it my mission to not be complacent and fall into the same routines. I think this club will be helpful with keeping my up to date and moving forward.
Hi @kelly31!! I’m so excited to have another hospital based OT in here! I loved acute care- and it was my experience in that setting that really gave me the the push to create a platform where we could discuss new research on a variety of diagnoses! It is amazing the variety that you see in acute care—and we are excited to support you!
Hi @Anne_Martin! So great to have you!!! We are similar places in our career! I have been an OT 11 years… We really value the thoughts and feedback from our OTs in academia- you all have such a unique vantage point- so we are excited to have you here!
Welcome, @patricia19! Can’t wait to talk with you more when we record our podcast!!
Thanks for creating this… I look forward to dive into the different articles and CEU’s… Feels great to be around like-minded individuals. I primary work in the area with kiddos from Birth to 3 (Early Intervention). I do have past experience in the NICU, which has helped with cases as young as 10 days old in the home. My older kiddos tend to lean towards Autism-like behaviors. And of course, feeding disorders is another big one lately.
Hello! I happened to catch the deadline for the price increase for OT Potential. I’m VERY excited to read articles that can inform my practice in pediatrics!
I’m so excited about the EPB and the platform which you have developed - love the EPB ! Thank you.
Hello folks, really pleased to be part of this community and to be putting greater importance on the evidence base for what we do.
Welcome @sherry5!! We love having COTAs in here!! Two articles jumped to my mind that relate to your work:
One is about cancer care nearing end of life: https://club.otpotential.com/t/cancer-rehabilitation-and-palliative-care-critical-components-in-the-delivery-of-high-quality-oncology-services/512
The other was this amazing review of dementia care: https://club.otpotential.com/t/dementia-prevention-intervention-and-care/264
Looking forward to having you and your expertise in here!!
Hello! My name is Ellen. I’m a newly qualified registered occupational therapist in the U.K. (originally from Oklahoma!) and am now also working on my MSc in Applied Neuroscience at King’s College London.
Due to my own personal experience with disability (physical, mental health, and neurodevelopmental), I am on the road to Independent Practice (rather than seeking employment with the NHS or other organisation) so that I can best manage my workload and health.
I am developing a service for neurodiverse young people, to support and enable them to manage the complexities of neurodevelopmental conditions and reduce ND-related susceptibility to mental illness.
I am also currently setting up a social/support group within a community mental health service for adult service users with neurodevelopmental conditions. This will be for service users seeking a support network and strategies to better manage their ND and MH conditions.
And finally, I serendipitously stumbled across OT Potential when I started searching online for examples of OT assessments and reports to help me develop my professional writing skills, as this will be an important aspect of my services, particularly when needing to write reports in support of referrals and disability benefits.
I am hoping you can point me in the right direction to find the best resources for my work. I am also very happy to be joining a network of OTs, as I feel rather on my own as an independent practitioner.
