Welcome to The OT Potential Club!

Oh awesome!! Welcome, @srinivasan! Sounds like a great endeavor! I think you could find some inspiration and research backing in our podcast on nature based therapy:

We haven’t covered any specific articles on designing a sensory garden at an autism center, but I did just find this interesting article: https://www.elsforautism.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Designing-an-Impactful-Sensory-Garden-for-Children-and-Youth-with-Autism-Spectrum-Disorder.pdf

Hi Sarah,
Thanks, so much(!) for having me on the recent podcast. I dropped in to see if I could contribute to the forum discussions around the Kawa Model and the featured article.
I used the 24hr sign-in link… how do I set/get a password so that I can drop in again after the 24 hrs have elapsed?
Looking forward to connecting with my colleagues!

Welcome, @maria18! Wow, I think you speaking for everyone in every setting now. It is simply a stressful time. This topic is on my hear too… I’ll start thinking of how we could cover this on the podcast as an AOTA-approved podcast.

Thank you for the OT potential club. I’ve been an OT in home health for 19 years, but being mom is my primary focus. I’ve loved the flexibility of being an OT. Our family has moved 7 times and it’s a blessing to be able to get license in numerous states. After loosing my HH position which I loved due to Covid, I’m finding myself in a unique position to take time and reflect on my career and see where I’m heading next. I love the holistic OT approach and have taken numerous classes. So, I’m here to connect, gather lots of resources and knowledge from you and I pray that during this time growing from all I learn I’ll be led to what is next for me in the OT world. Thank you all for your input and all the resources.

Hello! I am a school based COTA in the Eastern US. I work with kids Preschool thru High School and I assist with a wide range of disabilities as I am responsible for Littles in 1 Autism Unit, 3 DD Units plus add in my gen ed. kiddos. I was so glad to find your invitation in my email! My employer has declined all attempts to assist me with maintaining my licensure the past 2 years and times are financially tough! Thank you for making it affordable!!! I am looking forward to getting started and will pass along the information to all of my co-workers!!

Wow! @shannon5, thank you so much sharing your story! I’m so sorry to hear about your HH job, but I’m so happy you have space to pause and reflect. It seems like there are so many directions you should head next…do you feel pulled to any particular areas yet?

Welcome, @shelley3! Your work with kids that age is so important- and we are honored to be here to support you! (And, I’m so glad you got in before our price increase! I agree that continuing education can get super expensive!)

Hi @ange1! I’m so glad you are here! There is such interesting research coming out related to OT and mental health. If you search “mental health” from our homescreen you’ll see some of the fascinating research we’ve covered already! (I worked in our state psychiatric hospital- so I am very passionate about this practice area!)

Hi all!
I’m an OT and a certified Hand therapist with experience in a variety of settings for over a decade with focus on neuro rehabilitation and UE conditions. Currently I’m working in an outpatient setting in one of the most economically and socially compromised areas in NJ. Our clinic strives in enhancing access to therapy services to the vulnerable and underserved population in this area. My main goal is to transition into the field of rehabilitation technology. I was very fascinated and inspired with your podcast on Self-management for stroke with Lauren Sheehan, and the one on BCI and OT with Lauren Souders. It’s amazing how much of a difference we can make in collaboration with technology in improving the quality of life of individuals. I’m looking forward to taking a deeper dive into all the impressive wealth of resources you’ve compiled on this platform. I’m also hoping to connect and network with my fellow OTs in finding opportunities and branch into this ever-evolving field of rehab technology and hopefully use my background to make an impact on people’s lives.

Thank you for creating this club, Sarah!
