Welcome to The OT Potential Club!

Hi everyone! I am so excited to join this community. I have been working in an outpatient pediatric setting for about two years now. I also have experience in inpatient rehab and acute care. I love OT and I love learning how I can better serve the families and little ones I work with! I can’t wait to learn with all of you!

Hi All,

I am excited to stay up on the latest research and meeting other OTs.

My name is Julie. I am a lymphedema therapist working closely with wound care patients. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi @mary16! So great to have you! I’m so curious: Are you switching to pediatric acute care or making a total shift to adult-care?

Wow, @lena! Those are two great experiences to jump-start your career! Here’s my two pieces of advice:

1.) In acute care: Work on getting really good at explaining why practicing ADLs is important. It is so important to work on function in this setting, but there is a learning curve for patients as to why! We wrote this acute care guide to patient friendly:

1.) To prep for outpatient peds, I recommend listening to our podcasts with Dr. Iona Novak and Michelle DeJesus- they do such a good job explaining how they translate best practices into their work with clients.

We are excited to be on this journey with you!

Welcome, @julie20!

I’m so happy to have another lymphedema therapist join us! I’m curious if you are in an outpatient setting- or inpatient that you work closely with wound care? (Or both

Also, if you have any suggestions lymphedema OTs you would like me to interview on the podcast- please let me know!

I’m so happy to have come across this resource! I’m a new grad and have been listening to your podcast on my commute to work each day! I’m currently working in inpatient rehab and will soon have the opportunity to float to acute care as well. So excited to learn and grow within this amazing profession. <3

Welcome, @PaytonN! I love acute care OT- and am excited for you to get to float there!

We have a hospital fall-prevention episode coming up later this fall that I am already excited about. (In our school OT podcast this week, we talked about a tiered approach to OT care- and I wondered the whole time if this is the direction acute care will head…) Anyways, looking to future conversation!

Hi Sarah,

I am excited to be a part of the community!

My co-worker @ University of Michigan Health System/ Michigan Medicine, Jodie (Bottiglua) Briggs would be an amazing guest on your podcast. She is stating her own platform and loves to educate others on our profession and how beneficial lymphedema therapy is in wound care.

Let me know if you would like me to introduce her to you.

Sincerely,

Julie García

Hello everyone! My name is Danielle Helminger and I have been a pediatric OTP for 11 years…currently in school based practice in CT. I just earned my post professional OTD from Quinnipiac which was a great experience. I specialize in feeding/mealtime challenges and have always worked in neonatal intensive care (one of my passions!). Can’t wait to learn from you all.

Oh wow! I love the experience you have, @danielle23. Neonatal care is a big gap on my website- so I really want to dive into some research related to it next year! Let me know if you have ideas for topics- or a guest for our podcast!

Hello! I have been an OT for 28 years, and for the past 20 years my passion has been treating clients with pelvic floor dysfunction (bladder and bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, etc). Almost 3 decades later I am back in school for my PPOTD. This will be a great resource as I want to finalize my capstone ideas related to pelvic health! This a growing niche in the OT community. Thank you for the invite!

Welcome @TiffanyLee such an honor to have you! I’ve known of your work for years!

I was just looking back at the pelvic health research Lindsey and I covered last year, if you discover a research article through your PPOTD you think we should highlight in the Club next year, please let me know!

(And I hope we get some pelvic health capstones posted by next week to jumpstart some conversation about ways to build on what has already been done- and the biggest needs out there.)

Hello! My name is Maria and I am excited to have this resource. I am currently working in school based practice, but I am also involved in the older community at a SNF.

Hi @maria21 ! This is exactly the kind of situation I was in, when I saw the need for the Club: I was trying to keep up with OT provision in multiple different settings!

Now, I actually love how OT in all of the settings is so interconnected!

Hi! Happy to join this group! I’ve enjoyed two CE podcasts so far. Thankful for this opportunity to learn and grow professionally while I drive. I’m an Early Intervention provider, so I spend a lot of time in the car!

Thanks! I just got my first job! I start at the beginning of September in a skilled nursing facility in Minneapolis. The rehab director is an OT and she and I are excited about me implementing some of the bladder training and pelvic floor therapy I have learned from Lindsey.

Welcome, @carolee1! What crazy timing @lindsey6 and I were just talking about the need for more support for pelvic floor therapy in SNFs! You’ll have to keep us posted on how things go!
