Wow!! @nirmala, it is such an honor to have someone from Mauritius in the Club! I just scanned the whole wikipedia article on your islands-- what an AMAZING place!! Please let us know if there are specific ways we can support you and OT in Mauritius!!!
Hi! I just joined today. I’m a pediatric OT in Columbus, Ohio. I’m excited to check out all of the resources available here!
Hi @jennifer58 I’m really excited to have in you in here! I’m working on our summer schedule today and I’m really excited about our upcoming pediatric content!
Hi Sarah,
Sorry to ask but, what is a COTA? I see it on American sites but don’t know what it means? Maybe Certified OT something? Forgive my ignorance. I’m in Australia.
I work in community paediatrics, with most of my caseload being school aged and on the spectrum, or with ADHD. I love the range of articles on here and that fact that we can discuss evidence. It’s so important to ensure our profession is taken seriously and we aren’t JUST relying on common sense!
Many thanks for the welcome!
Hey Kerrie!! Oooo great questions! OTs have so much shared language-- but there are definite regional differences like this one.
You are on the right track! COTA stand for Certified (with our national organization) OT Assistant. COTAs have an associate or bachelors degree and are such important parts of our therapy teams here in the US!
I’m glad you like the Club so far! Keep asking good questions- I love it!!
So excited to find this resource! I am an OT working in the outpatient neuro setting in Michigan. Super excited to learn and chat with passionate therapists!!
Hello everyone! My name is Carolee and I am a recent graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s OTD program. I am preparing for the NBCOT as well as preparing to move to St. Paul, Minnesota. For my capstone I worked on women’s empowerment and participated in OT Pioneers for pelvic floor therapy by Lindsey Vestal. Through that course I was introduced to OT potential and I am very excited to be here and to learn more. I see myself working with geriatrics and branching out into how pelvic floor therapy can help with incontinence within skilled nursing facilities. Thank you for this community!
Welcome, @lauren43 wow! Brandy I just talked about the podcast about the need for more OTs to be working in outpatient neuro. I’m so excited to be able to dig into new neuro evidence with you- it is a such an exciting time to be a neuro therapist.
Oooo… @carolee1, so many things I love about this post! I went to undergrad in Northfield MN and have such a special place in my heart for St. Paul- you will love it!
And, what a great investment in your career to take Lindsey’s course. After talking with her on the podcast- I made a mental goal to find an OT who I could have on the podcast to talk about addressing incontinence in SNFs-- so if you know any anyone let me know!
I just listened to the Parkinson podcast with brandy, this morning on my way to work!! So good!!
I am so happy to hear that an OT working in neuro enjoyed it!! That means a lot to me! I’m already excited to circle back to Parkinson’s again on the podcast. Such an important topic- with such compelling research coming out around it!!
This is random, but I highly recommend Emily Rich’s podcast for you! I know it may not seem immediately relevant to neuro-- but so many people with neuro conditions also have autonomic dysfuntion, and Emily does SUCH a good job talking about it!
So glad you liked it! And I’m especially excited to hear from an OT in outpatient neuro. Love it!
That’s so exciting! pelvic floor therapy is a GREAT place for an OT to be working in especially with a focus on geriatrics. Good luck!
Truth - especially with long-covid incidence on the rise!
