Hello from Ireland Very excited to be here and to start exploring all the amazing resources and to get chatting with fellow OTs. What a fantastic lil community you’ve all created !! X
I am currently working in a community disability service for children and young people in Ireland, more specifically Early Years (0-5) with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities. I’ve been working in this area for 2+ years and love it but so often feel out of my depth! Even just the word ‘potential’ resonates so much with me as this is exactly what I want, to realise my potential as an OT in this setting and set about trying to reach it!
HI @Aoife! It is so great to have you in here! It sounds like you are doing really important work, with such a precious age group! It is natural to feel out of our depth because there is honestly so much to learn. I’m glad you are here so we can learn together! I’m so glad that you liked the “potential” part of our name. I came up with the name like 10 years ago…and it has felt right ever since!
Hello! I’m in the process of creating an in home outpatient Therapy practice in NY and am excited to have the club as a resource. Very pleased with the content on the podcasts and articles you’ve shared thus far.
Welcome, @tara4! Congrats on starting your home outpatient therapy practice! That sounds very exciting! We are proud to be a resource for you as you undertake this new adventure. I’m very pleased you’ve found our topics to be helpful so far, and we are really looking forward to our 2022 content!
Hello from Quebec, Canada! Looking forward to connect with other mental health OTs
Welcome, @stephanie30!! Hello for Nebraska in the US! It is definitely on my bucket list to visit Quebec and specifically Montreal someday!
I was literally just thinking this morning about the youth mental health crisis here in the US that has been worsened by the pandemic. I really think we are headed into a future where we all need to think of ourselves as mental health OTs to some degree. I’m passionate about continuing to cover mental health topics in 2022, but here’s a look at what we’ve discussed so far:
Hello! My name is Caitlin and I work in a non-profit pediatric clinic in Muskogee, Oklahoma. I am always looking to learn from other occupational therapists, especially concerning cerebral palsy, visual impairment, sensory processing, toileting, emotional health, autism, and transition skills for teens.
Great to have you, @CPHoagland!! I am looking at our research line-up for next year, and I’m super eager to discuss some of our articles on cerebral palsy!
Hello all you wonderful OT Potential-ites! Long-time listener/peruser, first-time subscriber! Excited to finally be part of the community and love everything you’re doing, Sarah! I’m a recent grad and new OT (licensed in Oct) and have been really relying on your resources lately, as I continue to look for work and explore my many new horizons.
I was very excited by this week’s podcast on CO-OP and decided to finally make the move and join. Looking forward to what the future brings!
Hi @dcarullo!! It is SO great to have you! And, I’m so glad our resources have been helpful! If you have a moment- I’d love to hear what has been most helpful on your OT journey! And, I am literally planning our upcoming year right now- so if you have any ideas for future content, please let me know!
For sure, Sarah! Lately, your resources on job hunting and resume building have been very helpful. I’m all over the place with my resume and have reformatted it several times. Your resources (and recommendation of Canva) have really helped me dial things in and feel more confident in my presentation.
I’ve just begun to explore the podcast over the past few months, but I love the weekly journal club. I love to learn and collect information, so as I explore settings and options for building my own OT repertoire, especially as I figure out where I will be working, I’m a bit all over the place with where I should be targeting my exploration. The journal club gives me a chance to sample many things, keep my head in the zone, and target my current interests. As of the last year or so, I find myself especially interested in client-driven programs like CO-OP, which I discovered through exploration of Dr. Beth Skidmore’s work in meta-cognitive strategy training (very cool stuff!!). I’ve also been exploring the Coaching-In-Context approach, which I was introduced to in my studies at Thomas Jefferson University. I love the client-centered/client-driven focus and broad applicability of these programs. While I will most likely be utilizing them in acute care or inpatient rehab setting, they are tools that would benefit any clinician in any setting. My wife is a school-based SLP and I’m currently in acute care and we both just took a recent training on C-in-C, as it is such a valuable tool in connecting with clients and really activating their participation in their own care.
Other points I am very eager to continue to explore:
-
Effective functional cognitive assessments and interventions for addressing comorbid cognitive deficits in the acute care setting
-what more can we do, as clinicians, to ensure that these deficits are being addressed in the continuum, especially when they are not a primary diagnosis. -
Research/programming exploring effective interventions/strategies for promoting health management in individuals experiencing homelessness, especially when discharging from healthcare settings. This is one area the current healthcare system is woefully inadequate in addressing that falls completely under the OT scope of practice.
Wow! @dcarullo, I am just having time to sit down and looking into some of your interests- how fascinating! I just added Dr. Skidmore and someone from the Coaching in Context faculty to my list of possible guest ideas!
After re-reading your last bullet point, I think you will really like my conversation with Dr. Adam Pearson. https://club.otpotential.com/t/19-beyond-individualism-ethical-considerations-for-ots-with-adam-cisroe-pearson-ce-course/791
Hello Sarah and the rest of the club! Thank you for all the work you do to help advance our great profession! My name is Alexander Connolly and I am currently a 3rd year OT graduate student at VCU in Richmond, VA. I have been listening to your podcast for a few months now, and decided to bit the bullet and pay for a membership. I am hoping that this will hold me accountable, so that I can stay abreast with EBP and take advantage of the CEU courses to advance my professional development as a student! See you all on the forum!
Yay! I’m so excited you decided to join us, @alexander! We love having students in here- and I really hope you find that your Club access makes the evidence even more accessible and actionable for you! I am getting excited about our plans for documentation examples and our assessment search for 2022. I know that our students in particular love these features- so I am excited to keep developing them!
Looking forward to learning more about your OT journey in the discussions!
The POTS podcast was very helpful and informative. I enjoyed listening to people that share the same passions as I do!
Welcome, @jveeder!! I’m so glad you liked the POTS podcast- spreading awareness about that condition and OT’s role in treating it is a huge passion of mine! We have so many passionate OTs in the Club- I know you’ll fit right in
Hello! My name is Sarah, and I will be graduating with my OTD in May 2022. I am excited to be a member of the OT Potential Club and look forward to developing my OT career utilizing EBP. Thank you for providing the tools and this community.
Hello! I’m really excited to have joined the OT Potential Club and a little obsessed with all the content. I’m a 2nd year OT student in the United Kingdom and your podcast and website was my go to for my intervention placement. It was a great help with structuring SOAP notes and access to research articles.
Oh yay!! @callie1, I am so excited to have another member from the UK! One of my goals for this year is to check in with individual countries to see if there are any updates I can make to the Club to make it more helpful to OTs in different countries! If you have any ideas for how we can better serve UK OTs, please let us know!!
