I, of course, agree with your point on the paucity of research—afterall, this is a pretty rare treatment option with only 1 RCT. So, the results certainly are not the end all be all answers.
I have found it interesting, though, that when chronic pain management comes up, that a multidisciplinary approach is often emphasized, as it was in:
- Multidisciplinary biopsychosocial rehabilitation for chronic low back pain
- Interdisciplinary chronic pain management
- Complex regional pain syndrome: An optimistic perspective
